POSITION SUMMARY

 

A Lincoln Electric System GIS Technician is responsible for performing daily updates on the digital electric distribution model/(GIS) as well as working in the field to verify GIS data for accuracy and completeness. We are looking for individuals with strong verbal communication skills, a desire to learn electrical systems and a knack for problem-solving to join our Geospatial Operations Team!

 

This role is great for someone who loves detail-oriented technical work, getting out into the field, following construction cycles, verifying electrical utility assets firsthand, editing features in GIS, utilizing CAD drawings, and ensuring that the geospatial data in our GIS system is reflective of the real world.  As a team, we strive to uphold high standards of data quality and ArcMap usability. Individuals that use our GIS System do so to make business decisions and require an up-to-date system they can trust. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
 

  • Update and Maintain: perform edits using ArcMap to create new point - polyline features and corresponding electrical and life cycle attribute data of assets within the electric distribution system map. 
  • Data Entry and Conversion: interrupt, extract and collect data to input into GIS from various sources like SAP work management, written text, email, CAD drawings, sketches and verbal communication.
  • Field Verification: perform field verification and equipment labeling of energized electrical distribution system for quality control of GIS attribute data, location and network model connectivity.
    • After LES verified knowledge and safety training has occurred, these duties require the opening and inspection of energized, high-voltage electrical equipment or entering electrical substations.
  • Documentation: Read technical drawings and compare the as-built configuration to the field.  Create red-line updates on as-built prints and other technical documents with current system configuration or track changes from the original designs.
  • Collaboration: work with field personnel, system operations and designers to ensure accurate modeling of electric utility infrastructure as it is being constructed, inspected or repaired.
  • QAQC: follow quality assurance and quality control process, use QAQC tools and perform routine data management tasks  with accuracy, integrity and completeness.
  • Compliance: adhere to safety rules and proper use of PPE, following standards and job duties assigned.
  • Storm Support: assist with crisis/emergency situations, when necessary.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Ability to apply knowledge of GIS and/or CAD software and systems. 
  • Ability to apply knowledge of transmission, substation, and distribution design principles. 
  • Ability to apply knowledge of engineering design plans.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

 

  • Associate degree in related field, and
    Two years of GIS/CAD or drafting experience, or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
