Are you ready to play a key role in enhancing the performance and reliability of modern gas turbine and thermal power generation systems? We are seeking an experienced Power Plant Operations and Training Specialist to support and strengthen our operations team. In this position, you’ll leverage your hands-on expertise with combustion turbines, heat-recovery steam systems, and conventional thermal processes to develop plant operators through targeted, high-quality training programs that reinforce safety, reliability, and operational excellence. 

 

JOB SUMMARY 

Responsibilities include the development, execution, and evaluation of Generation Operations Training and Operations Certification programs for all power plant staff. Monitors, coordinates, and oversees the proper and safe completion of required training for both Union and Non-union staff. Additional responsibilities include planning and organizing special projects, providing technical support to area managers to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, training materials and training manual updates, and maintaining operational familiarity in all power and thermal plants to keep training materials organized and current. This position may require work outside of normal work hours during outages, early/late dispatch instructions, and to accommodate shift workers. Consistent and reliable attendance is required. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND COMPETENCIES

  • As subject matter expert, develops training curriculum for plant-specific systems, equipment, and procedures to include classroom training, eLearning, and On-The-Job demonstrations. 
  • Evaluates trainee performance through a variety of methods, including written quizzes and exams, oral boards and field demonstrations. 
  • On-going administration of the plants’ training programs utilizing the Learning Management System to track and schedule required training for plant staff before delinquencies occur.  
  • Maintains Certifications for all positions at all plants by working with Supervisors to review and update as needed, creating new certifications when needed, and evaluating effectiveness of existing certification programs. 
  • Identifies training needs by working with Management to evaluate strengths and weaknesses of plant staff and creates or modifies training processes accordingly.  
  • Evaluates training effectiveness to ensure incorporation of taught skills and techniques into plant staff's work behaviors.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Associate degree in related field, and
  • 5 years Control Room Operator experience in steam and/or gas turbine plants, or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Bachelor degree in related field and experience in a formal training department with a focus on training program development, training presentation to a live audience, and training program administrative maintenance preferred.
