We are seeking a hands-on, results-driven Fleet Maintenance Supervisor to lead and coordinate the daily operations of our fleet maintenance department. In this critical role, you will oversee preventative maintenance programs, lead technicians, ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and keep our vehicles and equipment operating at peak performance. The ideal candidate brings strong mechanical expertise, proven leadership skills, and a commitment to minimizing downtime while maximizing efficiency, safety, and reliability across the fleet.
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for overall supervision of fleet maintenance and fleet maintenance staff to ensure a proper and safe work environment. Specific responsibilities include overseeing maintenance, repairs, and initial set up of LES vehicles and equipment, employee development, and assisting with budget development and fleet inventory management. Supervises team, ensures training is conducted, and reviews the performance of team members. Determines the effects of alterations on the safety of vehicle and equipment operations. Reports to the manager all special occurrences such as emergency situations and corrective actions taken to maintain critical equipment in service. Consistent and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND COMPETENCIES
- Supervises staff to include prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, monitoring employee performance, ensuring staff members are trained and cross trained, resolving conflicts, and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
- Completes, reviews, and approves various reports, and forms, to include timesheets, work order/tickets, mileage reports, accident reports, expense reports, etc.
- Provides input for capital and operational budgets for area of assignment, including monitoring and explaining variances, approving and reviewing expenditures, etc.
- Provides technical expertise to employees and peer departments regarding equipment specifications, modifications, operations, and maintenance performed by the department.

Investigates and reports all incidents and accidents that result in vehicle damage and works closely with peer departments to recommend corrective action to avoid future incidents.
- Oversees and makes preventative maintenance inspections of company vehicles and repairs or replaces items as necessary including but not limited to trucks, aerial devices, booms, etc.
- Ensures the diagnosis of mechanical problems in machinery or equipment and determines feasibility of economic repair and ensures equipment is safe and reliable.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Understanding of applicable Federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.

Using computers, and applicable software applications such as Microsoft office, MRP modules of ERP systems such as SAP and Oracle.

Specific knowledge of OSHA, DOT regulations, ASTM and ANSI and other standards as they relate to the vehicles and the electric utility industry.

Reading, analyzing, and interpreting drawings, reports, procedures, policies, and manuals.

Ability to communicate with internal/external customers via various means, including but not limited to email, phone, and written/verbal communication.

Proficient math skills
REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate degree in Automotive or Diesel Mechanics or related field, and

At least five years of progressively responsible work-related experience in heavy equipment maintenance and/or fleet maintenance including at least four years of direct supervisory experience, or
-
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
