We’re seeking a skilled and motivated Protection & Controls Crew Leader to join our LES team of dedicated professionals ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of our electric power systems. In this leadership role, you’ll oversee a crew responsible for installing, maintaining, and testing protection and control equipment for substations and transmission systems. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in relay systems, SCADA, and control circuits, along with proven leadership experience in utility or industrial electrical work. JOB SUMMARY  

Responsible for leading, supporting, and providing technical expertise to Protection & Control technicians. Specific responsibilities include leading staff, providing training, contributing to and ensuring work is completed per specifications and assists in developing, implementing, and maintaining preventative maintenance schedules and procedures. Areas of responsibility include electrical/electronic equipment and schemes which are implemented into the design of the substation protective relay systems, control systems, alarm systems, and monitoring systems up to the 345KV level. Consistent and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND CORE COMPETENCIES  

  • Leads a crew to include prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, monitoring employee performance, ensuring staff members are trained and cross trained, resolving conflicts, and making hiring and disciplinary recommendations.  

  • Provides technical expertise to assigned personnel as they operate, troubleshoot and maintain complex on-line systems where the consequence of error has the potential to cause large scale outages, damage to power equipment, or safety hazards for employees or the general public.  

  • Collaborates with peer groups to perform specialized equipment tests, develop new testing procedures, and install and commission new equipment.  

  • Oversees the implementation and maintenance of assigned equipment including protective relays, SCADA remote terminal units, substation alarm systems, and programmable logic controllers for substation integration.  

  • Schedules, coordinates and ensures proper maintenance and testing is performed and documented to meet regulatory compliance requirements.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE  

  • Associate’s degree in Electro-Mechanical, Electronics, or Electrical Technology, and  

  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience in area of assignment, or  

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
