ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND COMPETENCIES

Responsible for the overall supervision and leadership of buildings and grounds operations and maintenance for all assigned facilities to ensure a safe and proper work environment. Specific responsibilities include supervising lead and union staff, budget development, short and long-term planning, and working directly with customers, architects, engineers and contractors on planning and completion of facility updates. Consistent and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position. 

 

  • Supervises staff to include prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, monitoring employee performance, ensuring staff members are trained and cross trained, resolving conflicts, and making hiring, termination and disciplinary recommendations.

  • Establishes and implements policies and processes for area of assignment and assesses risks related to policies and department activities.

  • Develops, implements and monitors short and long-term goals and objectives for the department.

  • Oversees and provides technical expertise in the installation, modification, operation, maintenance and repair of facilities, including building maintenance and operation, grounds keeping, and custodial services.

  • Develops and maintains relationships with internal customers and external customers, designated vendors, and trade or industry organizations. 

  • Develops capital and operational budgets for area of assignment, including monitoring and explaining variances, approving and reviewing expenditures, etc.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED  

  • Understanding of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules and regulations. 

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

  • Associate's degree in Electrical/Mechanical Technology or related field, and 
  • At least three years of supervisory experience in building maintenance and landscaping, or 
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. 
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Business Administration, or Management preferred. 

 

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
